Box Score West Lawn, PA (May 4, 2013) - The Arcadia University Knights had their 2013 season come to an end this afternoon with a 3-1 loss to the Alvernia University Crusaders in the MAC Commonwealth Championships. The Knights needed to defeat Alvernia twice to claim the title, but fell in the first game.
Jordan Hofferman was stellar on the mound allowing just three runs on six hits in eight innings pitched.
The first five innings went scoreless with neither team getting anything going offensively. Then in the sixth it was Alvernia who struck first. Hofferman allowed a leadoff single, but then retired the next two batters. Richie Ricciardi, the tournament MVP, the stepped to the plate and hit a triple to the right centerfield gap that scored Turner all the way from first for a 1-0 lead.
Then in the eighth, Ricciardi took the first pitch that Hofferman threw over the right field fence with a runner on first to give the Crusaders a 3-0 lead. The Knights threatened in the ninth as
David Jacobs singled and
Elliott Freeman reached on an error. The next two batters grounded out, but
George Pagan got his third hit of the day to knock in Jacobs to make the score 3-1. Arcadia could not get another run across in the ninth and fell 3-1.
Pagan was 3-4 win the game with an RBI and was one of three Knights who recorded a hit.
The Arcadia season comes to end with a record of 23-19-1.
