Women’s Soccer Ties Haverford 0-0 in 2013 Opener

Box Score The Arcadia University women's soccer team opened the season with a 0-0 draw at Haverford College Saturday afternoon in the first game of the 2013 Haverford Kickoff Classic. It was the first game of the season for both teams.

Senior keeper Jackie Law (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and junior keeper Robin Chernow (Chester, N.J.) tallied six saves to record the first shutout of the season for the Knights and Fords, respectively.

Both teams exchanged midfield play for most of the game, and despite not recording a win head coach Rick Brownell was pleased with his team's effort against one of the top programs in the region.

"The defense was the star of today's match" said Brownell. "Jackie and her defensive unit of Alex Stoner, Melia Ochsner, Kelsey Koch and Madison Horner put out a heroic effort. Senior striker Fatima Elmedkhar spent most of the game deep into Haverfords defense, causing them fits with her pressure."
Arcadia was outshot 16-8 in the game, while shots on goal were even at six each. Haverford had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Knights will be back in action Sunday at the Haverford Kickoff Classicwhen they take on Eastern University at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles dropped a 4-0 decision to Stevenson University today at the Haverford Kickoff Classic.
