Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior midfielder
Alex Wells (Hockessin, Del.) scored on a penalty kick with 5:26 remaining in the match to give the Arcadia University men's soccer team a 3-2 non-conference victory over Keystone College Saturday afternoon at Easton Field.
The Knights improved to 4-5-1 for the season with the win, while the Giants remained winless at 0-8-1.
Keystone jumped on the board first in the 28th-minute when sophomore forward Adam Kashuba (Dickson City, Pa.) put home a cross from freshman back Massimo Lahey (Stroudsburg, Pa.), and Arcadia answered with 3:48 left in the opening frame as senior midfielder
Joe Bagnall (York, Pa.) fired the ball into the bottom left corner off a cross from sophomore midfielder
David Colombo (Pompton Plains, N.J.).
The Knights came out strong to start the second half and took their first lead of the match 2:05 into the period as senior forward
Dean Search (Cream Ridge, N.J.) placed the ball inside the left post off a feed from Colombo. Arcadia's 2-1 lead lasted until the 65th-minute when freshman back Dante DeAngelo (Dallas, Pa.) launched a hard line drive past a diving senior goalkeeper
Ryan Lantzy (Phoenixville, Pa.) to knot the score at 2-2.
Arcadia kept the pressure on and had several good scoring chances, including a shot from freshman forward Ricardo Margolis (Palmyra, N.J.) that rang off the crossbar with 17 minutes to go, but could not find the back of the net until being awarded a penalty kick with five and a half minutes to go after Keystone committed a foul in the box. Wells then stepped up and scored what proved to be the game-winner as he put the ball past senior keeper Daniel O'Rourke (Dublin, Ireland).
The game was not actually as close and the score would indicate as the Knights outshot the Giants 30-5 in the match, which included a 19-1 margin in the second half. Arcadia also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Lanzty needed to make just two saves to improve his record to 4-5-1, while O'Rourke fell to 0-8-0 after making nine saves. The Giants also had a pair of team saves in the match, one in each half.
The Knights will be back in action next Saturday, October 5, when they travel to Hood College for a 3:30 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
