Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team was just 2-of-19 from the field in the first half and was never able to recover in the second as it dropped a 58-42 Commonwealth Conference contest at Messiah College Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons improved to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fell to 8-7 overall and 2-6 in league play.
The Knights were a much improved team in the second half, outscoring Messiah 32-31 while shooting 43 percent (10-23) from the field, but that was not enough to overcome its 27-10 halftime deficit.
Sophomore guard
Samantha Caligiuri (West Grove, Pa.) scored each of her game-high 15 points in the second half for the Knights, while fellow sophomore guard
Dominique Hassinger (Franklinville, N.J.) scored eight of her 10 points in the second frame.
Senior guards Taylor Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Katelyn Vanderhoff (Lititiz, Pa.) scored 11 points each to lead the Falcons, while freshman forward Gillian Glackin (New Providence, Pa.) netted 10 points with six boards.
Arcadia's defense kept Messiah from running up the score in the first half as the Falcons shot 30 percent (10-33) from the field in the opening period. They shot 38 percent (12-32) in the second.
The Knights will look to bounce back Wednesday when they host a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest against Alvernia University at Alumni Gymnasium.
