Cold Finish Costs Women’s Basketball Team in 66-51 Loss at Widener

Box Score CHESTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team went scoreless in the final 6:56 of the game as it dropped a 66-51 Commonwealth Conference contest at Widener University Wednesday night.

Junior forward Victoria Roukas (Palisades Park, N.J.) scored a layup to give the Knights (6-6, 0-5 CC) a 51-50 lead with just under seven minutes to go, but that proved to be the final two points of the game for Arcadia as the Pride (8-4, 3-2 CC) closed the contest with a 16-0 run to secure the win.

Senior guard Jen Egee (Ridley Park, Pa.) put Widener ahead for good by making a pair of free throws on the possession following Roukas' basket.

It was a tightly contested game prior to the start of the Knights scoring drought, with the lead changing hands on several occasions and neither team leading by more than five points.

Arcadia led 35-34 at the half after sophomore guard Dominique Hassinger (Franklinville, N.J.) knocked down a jumper with 19 seconds left in in the opening period, and led by as many as four in the second half after sophomore guard Mary Badeen (Newport, Maine) drained a three to make it 43-39 four minutes into the second half.

Sophomore forward Valerie DiMuro (Tappan. N.J.) had a perfect shooting night for the Knights, making all six attempts from the field and each of her four attempts from the line to finish with a team-best 16 points. She also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Sophomore guard Samantha Caligiuri (West Grove, Pa.) also scored in double figures with 11 points.

Egee scored a game-high 26 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field with four threes and was a perfect 10-for-10 at the line. Senior guard Joanna Persiano (Ventnor, N.J.), junior forward Courtney Colella (Cinnaminson, N.J.), junior guard Krista Reiter (Sewell, N.J.) added nine points each.

Arcadia will return to action Saturday when it travels to Hood College for a 1 p.m. conference contest.
