GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 Commonwealth Conference match to visiting Messiah College Saturday at Easton Field.
The Falcons, who are ranked No. 1 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America Coaches' Poll, improved to 17-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in conference play with the win. The Knights fell to 9-6-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play with the loss.
Jeremy Payne scored twice in the game for Messiah, opening the scoring 5:42 into the contest and then capping things off with a perfectly placed header in the 66th minute. Both of his goals were setup by Mike Kovach, who scored on a penalty kick at exactly eight minutes.
Aaron Hennigan needed to make just one save to pick up his first decision of the season for the Falcons. Freshman keeper
Chris Watson had five saves while suffering the first loss of his collegiate career, dropping his record to 3-1-0.
The Knights are seeded third in next week's Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament, and will travel to second-seeded Lycoming College Thursday, November 6, for a semifinal round match. The game time will be announced Sunday afternoon.
