OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The fifth-seeded Arcadia University field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision in the second overtime at seventh-seeded Stevenson University in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Championship Final Sunday.
Caitlin Dempsey scored both goals for the Mustangs (15-7), scoring in the 28th minute to give Stevenson a 1-0 lead at the half and then knocked home the game-winner in the 95th minute, giving her 26 goals for the season.
The Knights tied the game in the 58th minute when junior back
Taylor Dalisera scored her fourth goal of the year from the top of the circle off a corner that was inserted by senior back
Katrina Dull, who picked up her fifth assist of the season.
Arcadia had plenty of scoring chances throughout the game, which saw the Knights outshoot the Mustangs 15-8 and hold a 24-5 advantage on corners. Arcadia outshot Stevenson 8-2 in the second half and 6-1 in the first overtime period. The Mustangs took all three shots in the second overtime frame.
Gabriella Brooks recorded 11 saves to improve her record to 14-7 for Stevenson. Sophomore goalkeeper
Brittany Hodson fell to 9-5 after making four saves for the Knights.
The Knights finished the season with an overall record of 15-8, tying the program record for wins in a season. Arcadia fist won 15 games just two seasons ago, going 15-6 in 2012.
