ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team outscored host Rosemont College 42-32 in the second half to record an 80-75 come-from-behind victory Sunday afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Knights improved to 4-2 with their fourth consecutive victory, while the Ravens fell to 1-4 overall.
Junior guard
Maureen Fiocca scored a game-high 24 points to go with four rebounds, three steals and two assists for Arcadia, while junior forward
Valerie DiMuro fell just shy of a double-double after pouring in 20 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field and grabbing nine boards. Fellow junior forward
Addy Crenny also just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds while recording four blocks and three assists, while senior guard/forward
Megan Fox also netted 11 points with four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Senior forward Liz Coyne led Rosemont with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while senior guard Nymira Nelson added 12 points to go with six boards and four assists. Fellow senior guard Dominique Sellers chipped in with 10 points while pulling down five rebounds coming off the bench.
The Knights held a two-point lead after Fox's layup made it 29-27 with eight minutes remaining in the first half, but Sellers sparked a 10-1 with a three-ball on the next trip down the floor to put Rosemont ahead 39-30 with 4:20 left in the opening frame. The Ravens later settled for a 43-38 halftime lead after another layup from Fox with 33 seconds left in the first half.
Arcadia was down five following freshman guard Jasmyn Parker's layup three minutes into the second half before going on a 16-4 run that started with a layup from DiMuro and was capped by a pair of made free throws by Fox that gave the Knights a 57-50 lead with 12:56 to go. Fiocca drained a three just a few minutes later that gave Arcadia a game-high nine points advantage at 63-54, but the Ravens would go on a 12-3 run from there, tying the game at 66 after Sellers knocked down a jumper with 6:53 left in the second half.
The game did not remain tied for long as Crenny knocked down a jumped on the ensuing trip down the floor to put the Knights in the lead for good, and started a10-2 surge that put the Knights up 76-68 with just 38 seconds to go.
Rosemont was then forced to foul and put a scare into Arcadia as Parker's three with seven second on the clock made it a three-point game. Arcadia junior guard
Dominique Hassinger was then put att he line by the Ravens and sack both shots to seal the win for the Knights.
Arcadia was 22 of 36 at the line, while Rosemont was 10 of 15. That 12-point spread proved to be the difference as the Ravens held a 65-58 advantage in scoring on the floor. Rosemont shot 45 percent (30-67) from the field and was 5 of 15 from three, while the Knights also shot 45 percent (27-60) from the field and were 4 of 14 from long distance.
Arcadia will return to action Wednesday, host a 6 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game against Alvernia University at Alumni Gymnasium.
