GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team struggled to find its rhythm on the offensive end of the floor as it closed out 2014 with a 71-64 non-conference loss to visiting Wesley College Tuesday at Alumni Gymnasium. The Knights shot just 34 percent (24-70) from the field, 28 percent (7-25) from three and 45 percent (9-20) from the line as they fell to 6-4 on the season.
The Wolverines (6-4) also struggled from the field but were still able to pull out the win. Wesley shot 31 percent (21-67) from the field, 27 percent (9-33) from three and 67 percent (20-30) at the line. Wesley was able to convert 15 offensive rebounds into 18 points and netted 16 points off 16 Arcadia turnovers, while the Knights managed just six points off 16 offensive boards and 11 points off 13 Wolverine giveaways.
Arcadia trailed for most of the game, falling behind 39-33 at the half and later trailing by as many as 13 in the second half after junior forward Tiara White's layup with 8:55 to go gave the Wolverines a 60-47 lead. The Knights would rally late in the period, using a 9-1 burst to pull back within three, 66-63, with 1:31 left in the game. Arcadia was only able to score on one free throw attempt the rest of the way while Wesley went 5 for 8 at the line to close out the game.
The Wolverines had four players score in double figures, led by a 19-point, 11-rebound effort from sophomore guard/forward Brionna Johnson. While also posted a double-double, scoring 10 points with 11 rebounds, while freshman guard Alexus Stroud netted 13 points off the bench. Senior guard/forward Roniece Williams finished with 10 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Junior guard
Maureen Fiocca scored 15 points with five boards to lead the Knights, while junior forward
Addy Crenny scored 11 points with a game-high 15 rebounds for her conference-leading seventh double-double of the season. Senior guard/forward
Megan Fox finished with six points, nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
Freshman guard
Natalie Toner scored nine points with three rebounds, four assists and two steals, while sophomore guard
Imani Alston netted seven points with five boards and three assists. Junior guard
Dominique Hassinger and junior forward
Valerie DiMuro added eight points each.
Arcadia will be off until January 3, 2015 when the Knights will travel to Lebanon Valley College for a 1 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest.
