Box Score FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Arcadia University baseball fell to 1-6 on the season after dropping a 6-2 decision to Norwich University Wednesday on the final day of its spring break trip. The Cadets improved to 2-2 with the win.
Norwich scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Each of the first three Cadets that stepped to the plate reached base to begin the inning, and then scored on a walk, a hit batter and a fielder's choice to open a 3-0 advantage.
Norwich added one run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI-single from sophomore Billy Whaley (Northfield, Vt.) and scored two more in the eighth on a ground out and an error, giving the Cadets a 6-1 lead heading into the top of the ninth.
Senior
David Jacobs (Havre de Grace, Md.) scored Arcadia's first run of the game on a single from freshman
Connor Arsenault (Medford, N.J.) in the top of the eight, and then drove in junior
Andonis Yiantsos (Voorhes, N.J.) with a single to center in the top of the ninth.
Whaley evened his record at 1-1 for Norwich after allowing one run on five hits while striking out 10 in eight innings of work. Senior Sean Gerich (Chicago, Ill.) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while freshman LaShawn Thomas (San Antonio, Texas) went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Freshman
Michael Ferrence (Hanover Township, Pa.) fell to 0-2 for the Knights after giving up three runs on two hits, three walks and two hit batters in three innings of work. Jacobs finished the day 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Arcadia is next schedule to open Commonwealth Conference play at Elizabethtown College Friday, with the first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
