Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team dropped a conference game to Messiah College on Thursday, 5-0. The Knights were not able to put a runner past first base in the game and were held to only five base runners in the nine innings. With the loss, Arcadia falls to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in the Commonwealth, while Messiah improves to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
The bats struggled to get going for the Knights after being retired in order for the first seven batters of the game until senior
Taylor Schon (Scotch Plains, N.J.) got the Knights' first hit of the game in the third when he singled up the middle. Base runners were scarce for Arcadia, only seeing the minimum number of batters in five of their nine at-bats.
The Falcons scored four in the first three innings of the game and that proved to be enough as they would shut out Arcadia. They would also go on to add one in the sixth inning.
Senior Jacob Sprengle (Williamstown, N.J.) led Messiah after going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in a run. Junior Derek Drake (Chesterfield, Va.) also pitched in with two hits and an RBI, while sophomores Ben Sollenberger (Gainesville, Fla.), Josh Good (Lititz, Pa.), and senior Jon Lapp (Gap, Pa.) each contributed an RBI for the Falcons.
Schon ended the game with two hits after going 2-for-3, while senior
Elliott Freeman (Bangor, Pa.) and sophomore
Michael Nessel (Stuart, Fla.) also added base hits on the day.
Junior starting pitcher
Kyle Farnholtz (Northampton, Pa.) took the loss for the Knights to even his record at 1-1, after going 3.2 innings and surrendering four runs on eight hits.
Sophomore

For Messiah, sophomore starting pitcher Steven Ridings (Harwood, Md.) went the distance in the shutout win, scattering only four hits and a walk, while striking out four.
The Knights will look to get back on track Saturday when they host Messiah at Erny Field for a conference doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
