Box Score 2 STEVENSON, Md. – The Arcadia University baseball team split a conference doubleheader with Stevenson University on Saturday afternoon, first dropping a 6-4 decision in game-one before salvaging a split by taking game-two 7-1, ending a 12-game winless streak that saw the Knights go 0-11-1.
The Mustangs (10-15 / 5-10 CC) took a 1-0 lead in bottom of the third in game-two on sophomore Matt Myers' RBI-single to short, but that proved to be the only run Stevenson would score in the game.
Arcadia (4-20-1 / 3-12 CC) took the lead for good with a three-run fifth, tying the score on junior
Tom Wagner's RBI-single to second and then taking the lead when sophomore
George Pagan scored from third on senior
David Jacobs' sac-fly. Wagner then came around to score on a single up the middle from junior
Andonis Yiantsos to cap the scoring in the inning.
The Knights tacked on four more in the top of the seventh to put the game away. Senior
Justin Simpson drove in two of those runs with a single to center in between run-scoring hits from classmate
Taylor Schon and Wagner.
Sophomore
Michael Nessel went the distance on the hill for Arcadia, evening his record at 1-1 after allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven. Junior Brandon Franke took the loss for Stevenson after allowing three runs on eight hits in five innings.
Wagner was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while Schon finished the game 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Pagan was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while senior
Elliott Freeman was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
The Mustangs scored four times in the bottom of the first in game-one with the help of four Arcadia errors and a wild pitch, and the Knights were never able to fully recover.
Arcadia got on the board with three runs in the top of the fourth, which saw Freeman score from third as Schon reached on a fielder's choice, and Schon later scored on freshman
Jordan Draude's infield single. Draude later scored on an error to make it 4-3.
Stevenson got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth on Myers' RBI-double to left, and got a second back in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Kevin Wu scored on senior Tom Goulian's sac-fly, giving Stevenson a 6-3 lead heading into the final inning.
Arcadia loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but managed just one run when freshman
Justin Chasmar was hit by a pitch with two away, forcing home Nessel from third. Schon then struck out swinging to end the threat and the game.
Senior Greg Myers evened his record at 3-3 after giving up four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out seven in seven innings for the Mustangs. John Lloyd took the loss for the Knights after allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits and three walks while fanning five in five innings.
