Box Score 2 ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team won both ends of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Lebanon Valley College Friday, holding on for a 4-3 win in game-one before taking game-two 7-2. The two wins gave the Knights (7-21-1 / 5-13 CC) the victory in the season series with the Dutchmen (18-14 / 9-9 CC).
Arcadia never trailed in game-one after scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third. Senior
Elliott Freeman (Bangor, Pa.) drove in junior
Tom Wagner (Somerdale, N.J.) with a double to left center and then came around to score on senior
Taylor Schon's (Scotch Plains, N.J.) single up the middle. Freeman scored again in the top of the sixth on freshman
Jordan Draude's (Lancaster, Pa.) double to left, and Draude crossed the plate with what proved to be the game-winning run three batters later on sophomore
George Pagan's (Old Bridge, N.J.) single to right, giving the Knights a 4-1 lead.
The Dutchmen pulled back within one in the bottom of the seventh when junior Phil Dohner (Schuykill Haven, Pa.) drove a two-out two-run shot over the left field fence to cut Arcadia's lead to 4-3. Sophomore Zach Smith (Lebanon, Pa.) followed with a single to right but was then put out at second as senior Tim Filer (Richboro, Pa.) hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.
Freshman John Lloyd (Reading, Pa.) went the distance to improve his record to 2-3 on the season for the Knights, allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Freeman finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and one driven in, while Schon was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Freshman Casey Wall (Colts Neck, N.J.) fell to 2-1 on the hill for Lebanon Valley after allowing two runs on four hits with three Ks in three innings. Classmate Corey Sell (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) also allowed two runs in three innings of relief on three hits with two strikeouts. Dohner was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.
Game-two was tied at two after two innings of play before Arcadia pushed three runners across in the top of the third to take the lead for good. Freeman drove in senior
David Jacobs (Havre de Grace, Md.) with a single through the left side of the infield for what would be the game-winning run, and then scored himself on senior
Jay Zehring's (Manassas, Va.) single to left. Draude drove in junior
Andonis Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J.) with a sac-fly to center field.
Arcadia tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth to put the game out of reach. Freeman drove in Wagner with a single through the right side of the infield and Yiantsos scored on an error, giving the Knights a 7-2 advantage.
The Dutchmen scored both of their runs on the bottom of the second as sophomore Brett Fundell (Wangate, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs with a single to left.
Sophomore
Michael Nessel (Stuart, Fla.) improved to 2-3 for Arcadia with his second straight complete-game victory. He allowed two runs on five hits while fanning seven in the game.
Freeman finished the second game 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored, while Yiantsos finished 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Jacobs also scored a pair of runs after reaching base by drawing a walk in the first and being hit by a pitch in the third.
Sophomore Austin Hornberger (Ringtown, Pa.) fell to 2-3 with the loss for Lebanon Valley, giving up five runs on four hits and three walks in two-plus innings.
The Knights, who have now won four of their last five games, will next travel to DeSales University Tuesday for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.
