Box Score DALLAS, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team dropped a 14-6 non-conference game at Misericordia University Wednesday, dropping its record to 3-15 with its sixth consecutive loss. The Cougars improved to 12-7 with their third straight win.
Arcadia took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when junior
Andonis Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J.) scored from second on freshman
Justin Chasmar's (Barnegat, N.J.) single through the right side of the infield, but that lead did not last long as the Misericordia scored two times in the bottom of the frame to take a lead it would never give up.
Sophomore Chris Boroch (Lansdale, Pa.) tied the game with an RBI-single up the middle the plated classmate Brian Eshleman (Lititiz, Pa.) from second and later scored the go-ahead run on fellow sophomore Ryan Lindsay's (Sewell, N.J.) infield single to short. The Cougars then scored three times in the bottom of the fourth on RBI-singles from Seawards and Eshleman and a squeeze play that saw Seawards score from third on freshman Jeremy DeCotiis' (Oak Ridge, N.J.) sacrifice bunt.
It was a 7-1 game heading into the top of the sixth when the Knights scored three runs to pull back within three. Junior
Tom Wagner (Somerdale, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs with a single to the gap in left-center to plate sophomore
Michael Nessel (Stuart, Fla.) from third and senior
Patrick Kwiatkowski (Bensalem, Pa.) from second. Senior
David Jacobs (Havre de Grace, Md.) later drove in Yiantsos with a single to center to cap the scoring in the inning.
Misericordia answered with a three-run seventh, which included a two-RBI double off the bat of freshman Nick Hair (Pottsville, Pa.) and an RBI-single from sophomore Al Reda (Montgomery, N.Y.), and then put the game away with four runs in the eighth. Sophomore Mike Comerford (Morris Plains, N.J.) drove in three of those runs when he homered to left.
Comerford finished 2-for-2 with one double, one homer, four RBI and three runs scored, while Hair finish 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Mike Bernet (Edison, N.J.) earned the decision after giving up four runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings work, improving his record to 1-0 for the Cougars. It was his first start in five appearances this season.
Yiantsos finished 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and one driven in, while Jacobs went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Wagner finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Senior
Jordan Hofferman (Elkins Park, Pa.) took the loss for Arcadia after allowing five runs on eight hits in three-plus innings, dropping his record to 0-1 in his two starts.
The Knights will look to snap their slide Friday when they host a 3:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game against Albright College at Erny Field.
