Baseball Drops 13-8 Slugfest at DeSales

Box Score CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team dropped a 13-8 non-conference decision at DeSales University Tuesday, dropping its record to 7-22-1 this season. The Bulldogs improved to 19-13 with their fourth straight win.

DeSales plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead on an RBI-double to center from senior Brian Mauro (Merrick, N.Y.) and an RBI-single through the left side of the infield off the bat of sophomore Carrington Santana (Allentown, Pa.), but the Knights answered with two runs of their own in the top of the second to tie the game at 2-2.

Senior Justin Simpson (Centreville, Va.) drove in classmate Elliott Freeman (Bangor, Pa.) with a double down the left field line and later scored from third on sophomore George Pagan's (Old Bridge, N.J.) sac-fly to right. The Bulldogs then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the second to regain the lead for good.

The Knights got right back in the game after scoring three times in the top of the third and once in the top of the fourth to pull back within two at 8-6, but DeSales matched that output with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth to regain its six-run advantage at 12-6.

Santana finished the game 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while freshman Tommy DePaul (Reading, Pa.) was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Freshman Chris Lee (Edison, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one driven in.

Senior Patrick Kwiatkowski (Bensalem, Pa.) was 3-for-4 on the day for Arcadia with two doubles and two runs scored, while junior Andonis Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J.) was 1-for-4 with three RBI. Simpson finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Both teams emptied the bullpen, using a combined 11 pitchers in the game. Junior Trevor Connors (Sewell, N.J.) earned the decision for the Bulldogs after allowing just one hit with three strikeouts in three innings, improving his record to 1-3. Senior Jordan Hofferman (Elkins Park, Pa.) took the loss for the Knights after giving up eight runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings.

Arcadia will look to bounce back Wednesday when it hosts a 4 p.m. non-conference game against Ursinus College at Erny Field.
