Box Score 2 READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team dropped a pair of one-run decision at Albright College Saturday, falling in a 5-4 walk-off decision in game-one before falling in game-two 2-1. The Lions improved to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play with the wins, while the Knights fell to 3-17 overall and 2-9 in conference play with the losses.
Arcadia trailed 4-2 heading into the top of the sixth in game-one before pushing a pair of runners across to tie the game. Senior
David Jacobs (Havre de Grace, Md.) scored on senior
Taylor Schon's (Scotch Plains, N.J.) single through the left side to make it a one-run game and senior Jason Zehring (Manassas, Va.) tied the game when he scored on an error.
The two teams traded scoring chances in the bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh, which saw junior
Tom Wagner (Somerdale, N.J.) thrown out at the plate, before Albright won game-one when freshman Nathan Fretz (Pottstown, Pa.) scored from third on junior Zac Okonski's (Reading, Pa.) sac-fly to left.
Wagner scored from first on Zehring's double to right in the top of the first to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead, and junior John Medvecky (Drums, Pa.) tied the game in the bottom of the second with an RBI-single to right.
The Lions then took 4-1 lead in the third as junior Dylan Boll (Sinking Spring, Pa.) drove in two runs with a triple to right and then scoring himself on a sac-fly. That lead was cut to 4-2 in the top of the fifth when junior
Andonis Yiantsos (Voorhees, N.J.) drove in senior
Brian Innella (Commack, N.Y.) with an RBI-single.
Freshman Trevor Mastria (Brick, N.J.) earned the decision after tossing two innings of scoreless relief, fanning three without allowing a hit. Boll was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored.
Senior
Justin Simpson (Centreville, Va.) took the loss after allowing one run on one hit in one inning of work. Zehring finished 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Schon was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and an RBI.
Albright loaded the bases in the bottom of the first in game-two and scored the only two runs it would need as senior Nate Peiffer (Robesonia, Pa.) and senior Collin Hecker (Reading, Pa.) scored on junior Gabe Santone's (Shamong, N.J.) single up the middle.
Freshman Daniel Louviaux (Mohnton, Pa.) made those runs stand up as he allowed just one run on six hits in six innings to pick up the win on the mound. Junior Aaron Forker (Harrisburg, Pa.) struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh to record the save.
Arcadia got on the board in the top of the fourth when Jacobs scored on sophomore
George Pagan's (Old Bridge, N.J.) two-out RBI single to center, but that was all the Knights would score in the game. They left the bases loaded in the fourth and stranded two more runners in the fifth.
Sophomore
Michael Nessel (Stuart, Fla.) took the loss despite a strong performance on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings.
The two teams will meet again Sunday at Arcadia's Erny Field to wrap up the three-game series. First-pitch is set for 3 p.m.
