Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Knights scored twice in the bottom of the ninth but it was not enough as the Arcadia University baseball team dropped a 9-7 Commonwealth Conference contest to visiting Albright College Sunday at Erny Field.
The Lions evened their record at 7-7 overall and 5-5 in conference play as they swept the weekend series. The Knights dropped to 3-18 overall and 2-10 in conference play.
Albright plated a pair of runs in the top of the ninth that proved to be the difference in the game. Junior John Medvecky (Drums, Pa.) drove in classmate Evan High (Lancaster, Pa.) with a single up the middle and later came around to score on senior Collin Hecker's (Reading, Pa.) single to shallow center field.
Arcadia answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame, but were unable to come all the way back. Junior
Tom Wagner (Somerdale, N.J.) scored on a sac-fly and freshman
Justin Chasmar (Barnegat, N.J.) scored on a passed ball.
The game was tied at 1-1 after three innings, before a six-run fourth gave the Lions a 7-1 lead. Albright had five run-scoring hits in the inning, and scored one run on a wild pitch.
The Knights got back in the game with a four-run seventh that cut their deficit to 7-5. Wagner drove in two runs with a double to the gap in left center, and scored behind sophomore
George Pagan (Staten Island, N.Y.) as senior Jason Zehring (Manassas, Va.) reached on an error.
Junior Jared Neiheiser (Wernersville, Pa.) evened his record at 1-1 for Albright after allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out five in six-plus innings of work. Medvecky finished 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while senior Nate Peiffer (Robesonia, Pa.) went 3-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. Hecker and sophomore Brandon Triantos (Vineland, N.J.) were both 2-for-4 with one run scored and one driven in.
Junior
Kyle Farnholtz (Northampton, Pa.) fell to 1-2 for Arcadia after giving up seven runs on 10 hits and three walks in 3.1 innings. Four relievers combined to allow two runs on five hits in next 5.2 innings. Wagner was 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, while Pagan was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Arcadia will next travel to Penn State-Abington Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
