Field hockey team falls in season-opener to Stockton, 2-1

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team fell to visiting Stockton College Friday night in a non-conference contest at Easton Field. It was the first contest of the year for both teams.
 
The Ospreys took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when sophomore forward Alicia Belko wound up and fired a shot into the cage from the center of the circle, and Stockton managed to maintain that lead heading into the break.
 
The Knights drew even with just under 10 minutes to go as senior back Katrina Dull scored her first goal of the season off a feed from senior forward Molly Goldstein. Stockton then managed to pull ahead with just 1:12 left on the clock when junior forward Samantha Barcia buried a feed from freshman forward Leah Davies.
 
The game could have easily gone in Arcadia's favor, but a pair of would be goals were waived off after the ball went into the cage.
 
Senior goalkeeper Liz Stankiewicz registered nine saves to pick up her first win of the season for the Ospreys. Sophomore Mia De Plato look the loss for Arcadia after allowing one goal with one save in the second half. Classmate Brittany Hodson had four stops and allowed one goal in the first frame. 

Arcadia held a 13-4 advantage in shots in the second half and finished with a 24-13 advantage for the game, while also having a 12-10 margin in penalty corners.
 
The Knights will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Swarthmore College for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference match.
