GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team staked itself to a 3-0 lead and needed each one of those tallies as it held on for a 3-2 non-conference win over Immaculata University Wednesday afternoon at Easton Field. The Knights improved to 5-2 with the win, while the Mighty Macs fell to 2-5 with the loss.
Junior forward/midfielder
Debbie Wolfe got Arcadia on the board 15:31 into the match when she banged home a rebound off a shot taken by junior back
Taylor Dalisera for her fourth goal of the year, and senior forward
Molly Goldstein extended the Knights lead to two six and a half minutes later as she fired home a shot from the right side of the cage for her first goal of the season.
Junior forward
Rachel Longenecker scored what proved to be the difference maker in the match just 52 seconds into the second half when she tipped Wolfe's pass from the left of the cage for her second goal of the season.
Immaculata mounted a comeback attempt after that, getting on the board with junior forward Patsy Murphy's first goal of the year in the 50th-minute and then pulling back within on senior midfielder Ashley O'Donnell's team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 57th-minute.
The Knights had a change to add an insurance goal in the closing minutes when junior forward/midfielder
Lauren Ransegnola was awarded a penalty stroke, but she lifted the shot of the top-left corner on the attempt.
Arcadia had plenty of other opportunities to score in the game, but sophomore goalkeeper Christine McIntyre was up to the task, making 23 saves to keep the Mighty Macs in the game.
In all, the Knights outshot Immaculata 38-4 in the game and had a 24-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Arcadia will return to action Saturday night, hosting a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Scranton at Easton Field.
