GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team won two of the first three sets, but were unable to close out the match as visiting Alvernia University won the final two sets to pull out a 3-2 (20-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 15-7) Commonwealth Conference victory Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Crusaders improved to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play with their first league win of the season, while the Knights fell to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play with the loss. This marked the second straight meeting where Alvernia came back from being down 2-1 heading into the four set.
Senior middle hitter Liz Newman hit .364 with 21 kills and five errors on 44 swings to lead the Crusaders, while freshman outside hitter Kristen Sipling added 12 kills with 17 digs. Sophomore setter Jamie Morris had 38 assists with 14 digs, while senior libero Teresa Zavala registered a match-high 31 digs.

The Knights will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host a 1 p.m. non-conference match against the College of Saint Vincent.
