Longenecker’s first goal of 2014 gives field hockey 1-0 win over Delaware Valley

Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior forward Rachel Longenecker scored the lone goal of the match in the 54th-minute to give the Arcadia University field hockey team a 1-0 non-conference win over visiting Delaware Valley College Wednesday afternoon at Easton Field.

Junior forward Tess Brzezynski setup the only tally of the game, sending a crossing pass from the right side of the circle to a wide open Longenecker, who one-timed it into the cage for her first goal of the season. The assist marked the first point for Brzezynski as a Knight.

That was all the offense that sophomore goalkeeper Mia De Plato would need as she stopped the only shot on goal she faced to record her second consecutive shutout victory in goal. She is now 2-1 for the season.

Junior goalkeeper Emily Aldridge had four saves in the cage for the Aggies, who fell to 0-2 for the season with the loss.

Arcadia had a 10-4 advantage in shots in the match, and held a 10-3 margin in penalty corners.

The Knights will be off for almost a full week before traveling to Wilkes University September 9 for a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.
