Matt Ross scored the first goal and recorded the first assist of his collegiate career as the Arcadia University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory at St. Joseph's (L.I.) College's Gary Smith Invitational Saturday.
The Knights (1-0-1) took a 1-0 lead into the break after freshman forward
Zach Pina headed a crossing feed from Ross inside the right post with 7:29 left in the first half for the first goal of his collegiate career. Ross then added a goal of his own with just 15 seconds left in the contest for the 2-0 final.

Seth Shoap registered three saves to earn the shutout victory in goal, improving his record to 1-0-1 for the season for the Knights. Frank Maggiore, Jr. also had three stops for the Devils (1-2-0) while seeing his record fall to 0-1-0. It was his second appearance in net this season.
Arcadia was outshot in the match 10-7, but had a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. FDU-Florham held a 9-4 margin in corner kicks.
The Knights will face Newbury College in Sunday's championship match. The Nighthawks advanced to the tournament final with a 2-1 overtime win over the host Golden Eagles.
