Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Off shooting day costs men’s basketball in 72-60 loss to Lycoming

GLENSIDE, Pa.- The Arcadia University men's basketball team shot just 34 percent (21-62) from the floor and 22 percent (5-23) from three-point range in a 72-60 loss to Commonwealth Conference rival Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. The Warriors improved to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fall to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play with their fourth straight loss.

Arcadia opened the game unable to connect on nine of their first 10 shots from the field. The Knights were only down three at the half despite shooting just 30 percent (10-33) from the floor, trailing 34-31 after freshman guard Sean Mayberry's layup with 24 seconds to go.

Lycoming opened the second half with an 11-4 run to extend its lead to 45-35 with five minutes frame, and Arcadia countered with a 7-2 burst to close the gap to five, 47-42 two minutes later. That was as close as the Knights would get the rest of the way as the Warriors used a 13-3 surge to take a 60-45 lead with seven minutes remaining to take control of the game.

Arcadia was led by senior forward Joe Brown, who contributed a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Brown also had five assists and two blocks in the game. Mayberry finished with a game-high 19 points and three steals in his first collegiate start. Freshman guard Amaar Clemente added seven points off the bench after making both of his field goal attempts, including one three and each of his two free throw attempts.

The Warriors were led by sophomore guard Nykolas King, who had 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Isaak Bodon added 13 points off the bench, and senior guard Patrick Dougher contributed 11 points.  Lycoming's bench combined for 24 points, compared to 11 for the Knights.

Arcadia returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Reading to face Commonwealth Conference opponent Albright College for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
