GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team was outscored by 12 in the second half as it fell to host Messiah College 68-53 Saturday in a Commonwealth Conference contest. The Falcons improved to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play with the win, while the Knights fell to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play with the loss.
Arcadia led 27-24 with 2:39 left in the second half following back-to-back layups from senior guard/forward
Megan Fox and junior guard
Dominique Hassinger, but that proved to be the last time the Knoght would hold the advantage as Messiah scored six straight to close the period and take a 30-27 lead at the half. Freshman forward Hannah Brown tied the game with a three with 39 second on the clock, while sophomore forward Gillian Glackin made a layup as she was fouled by junior forward
Addy Crenny and hit the free throw that followed to put the Falcons ahead for good.
Messiah scored seven straight to open the second half to go up 37-27 and led by double-digits for most of the period. Arcadia was able to pull within six after a free throw from Hassinger cut the Falcons lead to 46-40 midway through the second half and it was still a six-point game two minutes later after junior guard
Maureen Fiocca drained a three two minutes later. Messiah followed that basket with a six-point bust to open a 56-44 lead and led by as many as 18 after a Nichols layup made it 68-50 with just over a minute to go in the game.
The Falcons shot 46 percent (13-28) from the field in the second half while holding the Knights to just 24 percent (8-34) shooting from the floor in the second frame, which included a 2 of 10 performance from three-point range.
Glackin posted a double-double with game-high totals of 17 points and 13 rebounds to go with six assists, four steals and three blocked shots to lead Messiah, while junior guard Dominique Seamon netted 12 points. Senior guard Sienna Wisse fell just short of a double-double with nine points and 10 boards while also dishing out six assists.
Fox finished with 14 points and six rebounds for Arcadia, while Hassinger finished with 12 points and four rebounds on the day. Junior forward
Valerie DiMuro registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.
The Knights will next travel to Drew University for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest.
