CHESTER, Pa. - The Arcadia University field hockey team scored five unanswered goals after going down 2-0 early in the second half to close out the MAC Commonwealth portion of the 2015 season with a 5-2 victory at Widener University Tuesday night.
The Knights improved to 8-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play with their third straight win. The Pride fell to 6-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play with their fourth consecutive loss.
Senior
Rachel Longenecker scored each of Arcadia's first three goals of the game in a span of just six minutes shortly after the Knights went down 2-0. She got the Knights on the board 7:41 into the second half, tied the match four minutes later, and scored the game-winning goal only two minutes after that.
This marked the second time in three games that Longenecker found the back of the cage three times, and marked her third game with three goals or more this season. The reigning MAC Commonwealth Offensive Player of the Week now has a team-leading and career-high 15 goals this season.
Freshman
Gabby Sedares scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 56th-minute to put Arcadia up 4-2, and senior
Tess Brzezynski capped the scoring with 1:48 left in the match with her career-best eighth goal of the season.
Things got off to a promising start for Widener, which went up 1-0 on Kaelei Renzi's second goal of the year six minutes into the game. That lead grew to 2-0 five and a half minutes into the second half on Kayla Herr's second goal of the year.
Senior
Mia De Plato picked up the win in goal after entering the match in relief of junior
Brittany Hodson, who gave up both Widener goals. De Plato got the victory without facing a shot on goal in her 28:35 in the cage. The only save of the match recorded by an Arcadia player was a defensive save for freshman
Kayla Brennan 12 minutes into the contest, her second of the season.
The Knights will close out the 2015 season Saturday when they host Eastern University. The non-conference match will get underway at 1 p.m. at Easton Field.
