Men’s Basketball Picks Up Third Straight Double Digit Win 90-77 at Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's basketball team continued its impressive start to the season Tuesday night as it picked up its third consecutive double digit victory 90-77 at Gwynedd Mercy. For the third time in a row, four different Knights recorded double-digit points, led by rookie Phil Pierfy's 20.

Pierfy scored the Knights first four points in a first half in which the hosts jumped out to an early lead. The Griffins led by as many as eight with 11:11 left in the half, however a pair of Josh Scott gave the Knights their first lead of the game at 32-31 with 4:44 remaining. A Kyle Reilly layup with 32 ticks left gave the Knights a 40-38 lead going into the break.

The Knights distributed the scoring well in the first half; senior Ryan Kelley led the eight Knight scorers with nine points in the opening 20 minutes. Pierfy and John Landro each shot 50% in the half for eight points. Kelley led the Knights with four rebounds, while Scott dished out a four assists.

Kelley drained a jumper to open the second stanza that sparked an 8-4 spurt in the half's first two and a half minutes; Pierfy scored the final six points in that span. The Scarlet and Grey opened its first double digit lead at 10 when Scott converted from beyond the arc just over five minutes in. It took just over a minute for that lead to be trimmed to four before Brandon Thompson responded with a three with 12 minutes left.

Kyle Reilly lifted Arcadia to a 12-point lead with a three pointer with just over eight minutes remaining, only to have Gwynedd Mercy score the next five points. Arcadia began to put the game away with just under four minutes left as a John Landro three put the team up 12 at 82-70.

The Knights shot 56.3% (36-64) from the field including 9 of 18 from three-point land.

The Griffins were led by Cedric Elleby's 32 point, 10 rebound performance on 12 of 18 shooting.

The Knights season opening road trip continues this weekend at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament when they open up against Old Westbury on Saturday.
