Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Crenny Powers Women’s Basketball to Third Straight Win, Knights Down Wesley 62-55

DOVER, Del. – Senior Addy Crenny recorded her third double-double of the season, her second in as many games, to lead the Arcadia University women's basketball team to its third straight win 62-55 over Wesley College Sunday afternoon. Crenny finished the game with 20 points and a season-high 22 rebounds.

Senior Maureen Fiocca got the Scarlet and Grey on the board a 1:15 in to the game with a jumper, however it would be the Wolverines that score six of the game's first eight points. The hosts opened a lead as wide as a 17-9 margin with 3:34 left in the first quarter before the Knights scored 10 of the last 12 points of the quarter. Crenny accounted for half of those points as the Knights pulled within one at 19-18 to end the quarter.

A jumper right out of the gate from rookie Olivia Roseman to open the second quarter gave Arcadia the lead at 20-19; they would not trail the remainder of the contest. Classmate Sammy Downham buried a three just under a minute later before Crenny nailed a jumper on the following possession for a 7-0 run to open the quarter. A Morgan Phillips three with 6:27 left in the stanza opened a game-best nine point lead for the Knights at 30-21. The Wolverines battles back to tie the game three times before the end of the half, including a layup with two seconds left to send the game to the half tied at 37.

Crenny deposited 14 points in the opening 20 minutes, while grabbing 10 boards. Downham scored all nine of her points the half helping the Scarlet and Grey shoot 45.5% from the field. Brionna Johnson and Tiyanna Gibbs each had 10 points to lead Wesley through the first 20 minutes.

The Knights started to pull away in the third quarter as they scored the first nine points over the first 4:30 of the quarter. Valerie DiMuro led the surge registering seven of her 10 points over the span that included going 4 of 5 from the free throw line. Following a three pointer from Allie Schwandt that pulled the hosts within one at 49-48, a DiMuro layup and a pair of Crenny free throws set Arcadia up with a 53-48 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The momentum carried into the fourth quarter as Camille Menns laid in two points just 17 ticks into the frame before Roseman put the Knights up a dozen with a three pointer followed by a layup for a 60-48 lead. Crenny laid in the last field goal of the game with 3:33 left before the defenses took over. The only points scored the remainder of the game came off a pair of Wolverine free throws.
DiMuro led all scorers with 10 second-half points, however the story was the defense. The Knights allowed just 18 points over the last 20 minutes, which included not allowing a single Wolverine player to score more than five points. The Wovlerines shot just 11.5% (3-26) in the frame.

The win comes on 34.9% (22-63) shooting from the Knights from the field. The Knights took full advantage of their second chances as they outscored the hosts 14-3 in second-chance situations.

The Knights return to Alumni Gymnasium on Wednesday to open MAC Commonwealth play with Lebanon Valley at 6 p.m.
