WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's basketball team got a pair of 20-point performances from senior
John Landro and freshman
Josh Scott as the Knights secured an 81-77 road victory at Lycoming College Wednesday night. Arcadia improved to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Commonwealth with the win, while the Warriors fell to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Landro finished with a game-high 22 points after going 7-11 from the field with a 5-9 performance from beyond the arc, while Scott finished with 21 points on 5-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 11-11 performance at the line. Junior
Ryan Kelley and freshman
Phil Pierfy added 10 points each; Pierfy added a game-high 13 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Nykolas King just missed a double-double of his own after netting 18 points with nine rebounds for Lycoming, while David Johnson also poured in 18 points on 6-10 shooting from the floor while grabbing six boards. Alex Newbold also finished in double figures with 14 points while going 6-7 from the field.
The game was tied at 25-25 after Chandler Calvin drained a three for the Warriors with six minutes left in the second half before a seven-point run by the Knights put them up 32-25. Freshman
Kyle Reilly knocked down a three of his own to start the surge, which was followed by a pair of baskets for Scott.
Arcadia was up 43-37 after a lay in from Pierfy a minute and a half into the second frame before a nine-point Lycoming run put the Warriors up by three, 46-43 two and a half minutes later. Newbold accounted for six of the nine points in that span.
It was a back-and-forth game from there, with neither team leading by more than one possession until Pierfy's layup with 8:28 to go capped a nine-point run for the Knights that gave them the lead for good.
The game remained close the rest of the way and saw the Warriors pull back within two after King sank a pair of free throws to make it a 77-75 game with 39 seconds remaining, but Pierfy answered with a tip-in on the ensuing possession for Arcadia and Kelley followed with two made free throws of his own after stealing the ball from Newbold with 13 seconds left to put Arcadia up 81-75 and seal the victory.
The Knights shot an efficient 45.8 percent (27-59) from the field while going 9-18 from three and 18-23 at the line, while holding the hosts to 35.9 percent (23-64) shooting from the field that included a 4-16 showing from downtown. The Warriors converted 27-36 free throws to keep it a close game.
Arcadia will return to action December 16 when it travels to Immaculata University for a 6:340 p.m. non-conference contest.
