ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team committed 24 turnovers that led to 25 points for fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley College in an 82-63 loss to the host Dutchmen in the opening round of the 2015 Commonwealth Conference Championship Tournament Monday night.
LVC improved to 18-8 and advances to face top-seeded Stevenson University Wednesday in the conference semifinals, while the Knights season ends at 12-14. Arcadia was making its first-ever appearance in the Commonwealth Conference tournament, and just its second conference tournament as a NCAA Division III program.
The Dutchmen did a better job taking care of the ball, committing 11 turnovers that led to just nine points for the Knights. LebVal also used its depth to its advantage with a 32-1 margin in bench scoring.
Senior guard/forward
Megan Fox posted a double-double with game-high totals of 16 points and 10 rebounds for Arcadia, while junior forward
Valerie DiMuro finished with 15 points and nine boards; both had 11 points in the first half. Junior forward
Addy Crenny totaled 14 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard
Maureen Fiocca finished with 10 points.
A total of six played scored in double figures for the Dutchmen, who were led by junior guard/forward Peyton Carper's 14-point effort, which saw her go 8 of 9 at the line while going just 2 of 9 from the floor. Junior guard Bridget Rothbert added 13 points with six rebounds and a game-high eight assists, while senior forward Rachel Kelly chipped in with 12 points and six boards while making all five shots from the field and both of her free throw attempts.
Fiocca and Fox hit back-to-back threes to open the game as Arcadia took an early 12-5 lead. The lead would change hands on multiple occasions it he first half, and the score was knotted at 35 after a layup from junior guard
Dominique Hassinger with 2:06 left in the opening frame. LebVal then scored nine straight points to close out the period and took a 44-35 lead into the locker room. Rothbert scored the last five of those points, including a three with just one second on the clock.
The Knights were down 13 after Crenny knocked down a jumper midway through the second before a 17-7 run by the Dutchmen over the next seven minutes gave them a game-high 23-point lead with just over four minutes to go in the contest.
Lebanon Valley shot 41 percent (29-71) from the field, 17 percent (3-18) from three and 88 percent (21-24) from the line, while Arcadia shot 37 percent (23-63) from the floor, 29 percent (5-17) from three and 86 percent (12-14) from the line.
