Baseball Falls in Home Opener to No. 17/25 Misericordia, 13-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Arcadia University baseball team fell to Misercordia University Wednesday, dropping a 13-3 decision at Erny Field. Arcadia managed just two hits in the contest, which was stopped in the top of the ninth due to rain.
 
The loss drops the Knights' record to 6-3 for the season. The Cougars, who are ranked 17th in the nation by D3baseball.com and 25th by the American Baseball Coaches Association, improved to 9-1 with the win.
 
Leading the way offensively for Misercordia was junior Chris Boroch, who was 3 for 6 with three doubles and a run scored. Sophomore Nick Hair was 1 for 3 with a double two runs scored and three driven in, while junior Kyle Lindsay was 2 for 6 with two RBI and a run scored. Misercordia junior Ryan Dorosh got his first win of the season after allowing only one hit with six strikeouts in the five innings that he was at the mound.
 
The Cougars started strong with all 13 of their runs coming in the first two innings of play. The Knights scored the final three runs of the game, but were unable to rally all the way back.
 
Senior Andonis Yiantsos scored on freshman Drew Coisson's single to center field in the bottom of the second, while classmate Tom Wagner scored on fielder's choice and junior Nick Todero scored on a ground out in the third.
 
Sophomore Michael Ferrence took the loss for Arcadia after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits through one-plus inning of work as he fell to 1-1. Junior Joseph Warren settled things down for the Knights after allowing just one hit with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings, while sophomore Christopher Keeser struck out the side in the seventh and senior Jonah Van Bemmelen tossed a scoreless inning and a third with two strikeouts before the sky opened up in the ninth.
 
Arcadia will be at home again Friday against Messiah College at 3:30 p.m. to open a three-game Commonwealth Conference series.
