OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Arcadia University softball team dropped a pair of Commonwealth Conference games at Stevenson University Wednesday by scores of 5-4 and 8-0 in five innings.
The Mustangs (5-6, 2-0 CC) staked themselves to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third in game-one. Junior Tiffany Kahl drove in freshman Sabrina Gordon with a single up the middle and eventually scored on an error after stealing third, while Freshman Jasmyn Ogletree capped the scoring in the frame with a solo homer to left.
The Knights (5-7, 0-4 CC) answered with four runs in the top of the fourth, which started with freshman
Amanda Hess driving her first career homerun over the left field fence to lead off the inning. Classmate
Tori Zaccaria drove in a pair of runs with a double down the left field line to tie the game, and later scored on a wild pitch to give Arcadia a 4-3 lead.
Stevenson went on to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth on junior Laura Welch's RBI single through the left side of the infield that plated freshman Alli Culp from third and Ogletree drove in Kahl with the game-winning run with one away in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.
Ogletree was 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored in the game, while Khal was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and one driven in. freshman Brooke Steinbach picked up the win after allowing just two hits while fanning four batters in 3.2 innings of relief, improving her record to 1-2.
Hess finished the game 2 for 3 with one double and a solo homerun, while sophomore
Samantha Quigley was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Junior
Erin Wilson fell to 2-4 after allowing five runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 6.1 innings.
Junior Kristen Mueller scored from third on freshman Kate Finnen's ground out to second in the bottom of the first for the only run the Mustangs would need in game-two as Ogletree tossed a two-hit shutout with five Ks. Stevenson led 3-0 before scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth to put the mercy rule in play.
Junior Kaitlyn Seger was 3 for 3 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in game-two, while senior Stephanie Ayres was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
Arcadia will look to snap its four-game slide Saturday when it hosts a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader against Messiah College at Blankley Field.
