Fast Start Propels Women’s Lacrosse to 13-6 Victory at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team opened the game with a six-goal run on its way to a 13-6 Commonwealth Conference victory at Lycoming College Saturday. The Knights improved to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play with their first-ever Commonwealth Conference victory, while the Warriors fell to 7-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play with their first setback of 2015.

Junior Adeline Bellesheim opened the scoring just 1:05 into the game and sophomore Erin Misner made to 2-0 47 seconds later. Misner found the back of the net again just over four minutes later before senior Haylee Molloy scored back-to-back goals in a span of 2:08 to put Arcadia up 5-0. Freshman Nicole Hutson capped that game-opening run midway through the period.

Junior Meghenn Jackson broke up that string of Arcadia goals with 13:15 left in the first half before a three-goal surge by the Knights extended their lead to 9-1 following junior Dawn Faranetta's goal with 7:03 left in the opening frame.

Arcadia scored four of the first five goals in the second half to go up 13-3 before Lycoming used a three-goal run that saw a pair of goals from Junior Savannah Fox to close out the scoring in the game.

Molloy totaled three goals, three ground balls and one assist and three ground balls in the game. She is now just six goals shy of match the program record of 228 career goals scored by Traci Conrad from 1994-97, and is 14 points away from becoming the program's first-ever 300-point scorer.

Misner finished with a game-high four goals with one assist and three ground balls, while Bellesheim finished with three goals. Junior Jordyn Dunacusky totaled 10 saves as her record improved to 7-2 on the season.

Jackson finished with three goals, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls to lead Lycoming, while Fox finished with a pair of goals. Five of the six goals scored by the Warriors were on free position attempts.

Arcadia held a 26-24 advantage in shots and a 26-20 edge in ground balls, while Lycoming had a 12-9 margin on draw controls.

The Knights will return to action Wednesday when they host a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference contest against Albright College at Easton Field.
