Baseball Drops 5-1 Decision at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team fell in a non-conference game at Franklin & Marshall University Sunday by a count of 5-1, dropping its record to 7-4 for the season. The Diplomats improved to 11-4 with the win.

The game was tied at 1-1 through three innings of play before F&M went ahead for good in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore Tyler Daley scored on a wild pitch. The Diplomats extended their lead to 3-1 in the seventh when Daley scored on junior Brett Poniros' single up the middle, and two more runs in the eighth gave F&M the 5-1 final. Sophomore Christopher Vincent scored on an error and Daley crossed the plate again on Poniros' single to center.

The Knights scored their only run of the game in the top of the third when senior Tom Wagner scored on an error after reaching base on a fielder's choice the put out senior Andonis Yiantsos at third for the second out of the frame.

Arcadia had a couple quality scoring chances in the game, but left runners on first and second in the second and ninth innings and stranded one runner at second in the seventh.

Daley finished 1 for 2 with a double and three runs scored for the Diplomats, while Poniros was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Sophomore Eric Bateman improved to 2-0 after yielding one unearned run on two hits while fanning six batters in six innings of work.
