Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by Rutgers-Camden, 7-2 and 8-4

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to visiting Rutgers-Camden Thursday night at Blankley Field, falling in game-one 7-2 before losing game-two 8-4. The Scarlet Raptors improved to 15-15-1 with the two wins, while the Knights fell to 9-13 with the two losses.

Game-one saw Brittany Scott picking up her 12th win of the season after allowing Arcadia only six hits in the seven-inning game. Rutgers-Camden got on the board early in the game, going up 1-0 in the top of the first inning with Brittany Scott's sacrifice fly bringing Jalene Garcia home to score.  Garcia led off the inning with a bunt-single before advancing to second on a passed ball and reached third on a wild pitch.

That lead grew to 4-0 in the Scarlet Raptors' three-run fourth, which included a pair of runs coming home on Garcia's single though the left side, and was 7-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh when the Knights finally got on the board with a pair of runs for the 7-2 final. Freshman Kaylee Zarick scored on a double-steal to break-up the shutout bid and junior Sarah Gunia scored on classmate Nicki Larro's two-out single to left. Scott then got junior Alicia McMahon to strike out looking to end the game.

Game-two saw Arcadia jump out to a first inning lead as freshman Amanda Hess' double to left field brought home Gunia home to score the first run of the game and then scored on an error after Larro reached on an infield single.

Things started to get away from Arcadia in the fifth inning when Rutgers scored four times to go up 4-2, which saw runs scored on a bases-loaded walk, a passed ball and a wild pitch. The Scarlet Raptors struck for four more runs in the top of the sixth on a pair of two-RBI singles off the bats of Scott and Katie Larson. The Knights once again tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but managed just two runs before junior Erin Wilson took a called third strike with the bases loaded to end the game.

Arcadia returns to action Saturday when it hosts Lycoming College in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
