Field Hockey Edges Visiting Wilkes, 2-1

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior Allie Hines scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd-minute to give the Arcadia University field hockey team a 2-1 non-conference victory over visiting Wilkes University Saturday afternoon at Easton Field. The goal was her career-best fifth of the season, tying her for the team lead in goals so far this season.

Senior Tess Brzezynski put the Knights (4-1) ahead just 4:32 into the match off a pass from classmate Lauren Ransegnola, and that 1-0 score would hold for the remainder of the first half. It was the fourth goal of the year for Brzezynski.

The Colonels (3-2) put the pressure on in the second half and eventually drew even on Jenna Skrinak's goal in the 51st-minute, and nearly took the lead shortly after. Arcadia junior Brittany Hodson was forced to make a series of stops on an odd-man rush to keep the game tied and 1-1.

The momentum shifted in Arcadia's favor after Wilkes came up empty on a pair of penalty corner attempts, and the Knights earned a corner of their own that would lead to the game-winning goal. Ransegnola inserted the corner to senior Debbie Wolfe at the top-of the circle, and her shot was deflected by Hines into the back of the cage to put Arcadia ahead for good with 7:39 left in the match.

Hodson went on to make thee more stops in the final five minutes to preserve the win. She finished with nine on the day as her record improved to 4-1 for the season. Dallas Kendra had seven saves at the other end of the field for the Colonels.

The Knights won the game despite being outshot 17-13 in the contest. Arcadia had a 12-7 advantage on corners.

The Knights are off until next Saturday, September 19, when they travel to the University of Scranton for a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
