GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team dropped a 5-3 non-conference match to visiting Gwynedd Mercy University Tuesday night at Easton Field, in a game the saw seven combined second half goals.
Senior
Debbie Wolfe scored the lone goal of the first half to give the Knights (4-3) 1-0 lead at the break, tipping home a crossing pass from classmate
Tess Brzezynski 12:55 into the match.
That scored held up until Sarah Yerk scored a pair of goals in less than a minute to put the Griffins (4-2) out in front for good 9:16 into the second half. Both were tip ins off a shot from the top-left of the scoring area, the first coming from Mehan Senkeleski and the second from Abigail Gabriel.
Gwynedd appeared to have the game in hand after goals from Stephanie Bacho and Melissa Russo extended the Griffins lead to 4-1 in the 55th-minute, but the Knights pulled back within one after back-to-back goals from senior
Rachel Longenecker cut the deficit to 4-3 with 5:22 remaining in the match.
Arcadia was accessed a green card shortly after Lonegenecker's second goal of the match, seventh of the season, and the Griffins took advantage of the extra-man situation when Bacho put the ball into the cage with 3:55 remaining for the 5-3 final.
The Knights fell to Gwynedd Mercy despite having a 13-8 advantage in shots for the game. Both teams had seven corners.
Arcadia will look to get back in the win column Saturday when it hosts Lebanon Valley College for a 1 p.m. MAC Commonwealth match.
