GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia men's soccer team picked up its fourth win of the year as the took down Gwynedd Mercy 3-1 on Easton Field Wednesday night.
David Colombo and
Ryan Hammer registered a goal and an assist apeice in the win.
The Knights wasted little time putting pressure on the Griffins and it paid off. In the 10th minute, Colombo and Hammer broke through the defense for a 2-on-1 break. The streaking Hammer found Colombo right in front of the goal where the latter put the ball right down the middle.
The visitors tied the game at one in the 33rd minute off a set piece just across the midline. Logan Welch was able to get control of a ball from from Rich Mychack in the middle of a scrum for the goal.
With a 13-2 shot advantage, Arcadia dominated the possession in the first 45 minutes of play to keep the pressure on the visitors. The Knights kept the pace in the second half.
Just two and a half minutes into the second stanza, Colombo and Hammer hooked up again. This time Colombo was sprinting down the right side with the ball when he found Hammer in the box for the finish.
Over the next dozen plus minutes, seven shots came off the feet of the Knights before
Ricardo Margolles was able to add the third goal. The goal was set up by
Georges Fiori who found Margolles coming from the left side, Margolles took the feed and beat the diving keeper.
The Scarlet and Grey were able to get 29 shots off with 11 going on target. The high volume of shots led to 15 corner kicks compared to just two for Gwynedd Mercy. Defensively, Arcadia allowed just four shots.
Chris Watson made a pair of saves to claim his fourth win of the season.
The Knights travel to the Empire State on Saturday to take on SUNY Cobleskill. They will return home on Saturday October 3 to open MAC Commonwealth play against Stevenson.
