GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team put six goals on the board in the second half on its way to an 8-3 non-conference win over visiting Swarthmore College Saturday afternoon at Easton Field. Five different players got into the scoring act for the Knights, who improved to 2-1 for the season.
Senior
Tess Brzezynski scored two goals with three assists for a game-high seven points for Arcadia while classmate
Lauren Ransegnola added two goals and two assists. Junior
Allie Hines also had a pair of goals in the game, while sophomore
Lindsay Tobey and freshman
Lindsay Bechtold added one goal each.
The Knights never trailed in the game as Ransegnola scored her first goal of the game just 60 seconds in, tipping the ball inside the right post off a lifted pass from Brzezynski from the top of the scoring area, and then added her second goal at nine minutes even after redirecting a shot at the left post that was taken by senior
Taylor Dalisera.
It remained a 2-0 game until Swarthmore was awarded a penalty stroke in the 19th-minute, and Laura Hyder made it count as put the ball past Arcadia junior goalkeeper
Brittany Hodson to cut the Garnet's deficit in half.
The score remained 2-1 at the break and Arcadia appeared to be poised to run away after scoring back-to-back goals in the first 6:23 of the second half, the first coming from Hines down low and the second coming From Brzezynski as she lifted the ball off a corner that hit off the bottom of the crossbar on its way into the cage.
The Garnet then called a timeout and responded well, scoring two straight to once again pull back within one. Sierra Spencer scored first in the 46th minute, and Ursula Monaghan followed in the 53rd.
The momentum shifted one more time as the Knights scored four unanswered goals to put the game away. That run started with Hines' second goal of the game and was capped off by Bechtold's tally off a corner after time had already expired.
Hodson picked up the win in goal after recording one save with two goals against in 45:26 for Arcadia. Senior
Mia De Plato allowed one goal over the final 24:34.
The Knights held a 27-8 advantage in shots and a 23-3 advantage in penalty corners in the game.
Arcadia will be back in action Wednesday when it travels to Delaware Valley University for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
