Women’s Basketball Falls 56-44 in Offensive Struggle at Alvernia

READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team was done in by poor shooting as the Knights fell 56-44 to host Alvernia Wednesday night. The Knights shot just 27% from the field in the game, with Addy Crenny tying for a game-high with 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting. The Knights fall to 7-8 and 2-4 in conference play, while Alvernia moves to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Scarlet and Grey opened the game on an 8-1 run over the course of the first 6:47, with Crenny and classmate Valerie DiMuro each posting four points, before ending the opening quarter with a 12-9 advantage. A 15-2 run from the hosts that ended the first quarter and carried through the 3:11 mark of the second saw Alvernia claim a lead at 13-12 that was pushed to 24-14 on a Jenna Wolf layup. Dominique Hassinger knocked down a pair of jumpers to cap the half's scoring to send the game to the break with a 24-18 advantage in favor of the Crusaders.

Hassinger, Crenny and DiMuro combined for a quick 6-0 spurt for the Knights to propel them to a one point advantage with 2:09 left in the third only to have Alvernia respond with a 7-0 run to end the third and open the fourth quarters. DiMuro helped the Knights back to as close as six with a jumper at the 8:05 mark of the final frame, however the hosts used a 9-0 run to open a 52-37 lead with less than three minutes to go to seal the win.

Arcadia shot 27% in the opening 20 minutes, before improving to a 31.3% in the second half. Fellow seniors DiMuro and Hassinger joined Crenny in double-figures with 10 points each. Pulling in 14 rebounds, Crenny notched her eighth double-double of the season.

Tyra Roberts led the Crusaders matching Crenny with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while the team shot 33.9% as a whole.
