CHESTER, Pa. – Arcadia University men's basketball senior guard
John Landro moved to eighth on Arcadia's all-time scoring list following a 22 point performance in a 74-69 setback at Widener Wednesday night, Landro now sits at 838 career points. The loss drops the Knights to 12-5 and 5-3 in MAC Commonwealth play, while the Pride move to 8-9 and 3-5 in conference play.
Widener opened the game on a 9-0 run before freshman
Josh Scott got the Knights on the board with a layup just over two minutes into the contest. A Landro three at the 14:06 mark while trailing by 10 opened a 9-0 for the Scarlet and Grey which was capped by a three-point play by the senior to make the score 14-13 in favor of the hosts.
The Pride opened a game-high 11 point lead on the heels of a 12-2 run capped by a David Nicholson three with 4:14 left in the half. As they have all season, the Knights responded as they used a 17-6 half-ending run to take it first lead of the game courtesy of free throws from junior
Ryan Kelley and sophomore
Brandon Thompson. Thompson's pair sent the game with a 38-35 score.
Using a 16-6 second-half opening run, Widener regained the lead and pushed it to as many as seven before freshman
Kyle Reilly keyed a quick eight point spurt for the Knights with back-to-back threes. After exchanging the lead seven times over the next six minutes, Kendall Green put Widener ahead for good with a layup with just under six minutes to go. LAndro sparked a 6-0 run with a three with 2:05 left that ended with a Scott free throw 2ith 21 seconds left that pulled the Knights within three, however a pair of Green free throws sealed the win for the Pride.
Landro's 22 led all scorers, with Kelley and Scott joining him in double-figures with 16 and 11, respectively. The team shot 40.4% from the field and 40% from distance while Widener converted 51.9% of its shots, including 10 of 15 from beyond the arc. Green was the Pride's leading scorer with 21 with Nicholson adding 20.
The Knights look to rebound on Saturday when they travel to Hood.
