GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 MAC Commonwealth win over visiting Alvernia University Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium. The Knights improved to 9-10 overall and 2-3 in the MAC Commonwealth, while the Crusaders fell to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia used large runs in the early going of the first and second sets on its way to 25-15 and 25-11 wins, giving the Knights a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. Alvernia jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the third set before Arcadia went on a 7-1 run to go up 11-10. The teams traded points after that before a six-point surge put the Knights in front 20-14 before closing it out 25-19.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Sophomore
Lizzie Joseph hit 44-percent while totaling a match-high 13 kills for the Knights, while senior
MaKenna Micklus hit 30 percent while totaling 11 kills and eight digs. Freshman
Shannon Ryan hit 35 percent while registering 10 kills, six digs and a match-high five aces. Junior
Colleen Stengel handed out 36 assists with six digs, and freshman
Emily Eng totaled a match-high 13 digs.
ALVERNIA LEADERS: Kristen Sipling led the Crusaders with nine kills and six digs, while Emily Smight chipped in with five kills and five digs. Aubrey Gruwell-Keating led the team with 11 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights dominated the match, outscoring Alvernia 59-21 while hitting 30.3 percent as a team and totaling 44 kills, 11 aces and four blocks. The Crusaders hit just 3.4 percent in the match with 17 kills, three aces and one block.
