GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior Allie Hines scored her third goal of the match in the 82nd-minute to give the Arcadia University field hockey team a 4-3 overtime victory over visiting Stevenson University Saturday to kick off homecoming weekend.
 
The Knights, who have now won four of their last five games, improved to 4-9 for the season and to 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Mustangs dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in conference action while suffering their fifth consecutive loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Both teams scored three times in a wild first half. Sara McVey opened the scoring in the 15th minute for the Mustangs, only to see junior Lindsay Tobey answer for the Knights 24 seconds later on a scramble in front of the cage. Hines gave Arcadia a 2-1 less five minutes later on a 2-on-1 rush with Tobey, and would later tie the match at 3-3 after putting home a shot initiated by freshman Sydney Cyr with 2:49 left in the frame.
 
The second half went scoreless to send the match into overtime, where the two teams exchanged scoring chances before Hines went in on a breakaway and deked around Stevenson goalkeeper Kelsey Eure before depositing the ball in a wide open cage with 3:27 left in the first overtime frame. The hat trick raised her team-leading scoring total to eight goals and 19 points.
 
IN GOAL: Freshman Anne Becker improved to 4-1 this season for the Knights after totaling seven saves, one of which came in the extra period, while junior Liz Stierle added a defensive save in the 59th-minute on a shot taken by Kali Martin. Eure finished with three stops for the Mustangs as her record fell to 2-8, while Marissa Hoffman came up with a defensive stop on sophomore Gabby Sedares shot in the 46th-minute.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia won the match despite being outshot 21-17 in the match; both teams had two shots in the overtime period. Stevenson also had a slight 13-12 edge in penalty corners.
