GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team picked up its second straight win Tuesday night with an 80-58 triumph over Immaculata at Alumni Gymnasium. The win moves the Knights to 3-1 on the season, while the Mighty Macs fall to 0-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Freshman
Sydney Cyr and sophomore
Susan Bossler combined for 11 of the game's first 13 points over the first 6:23 of the opening quarter. Bossler's six points in the span came on a pair of threes, while Cyr scored on a jumper, a layup and a free throw. Immaculata rattled off seven quick points to pull within two at 9-1 with 2:30 to go in the first quarter.
Four different players scored over an 11-0 Arcadia run that ended the first stanza and opened the second to jump to a 22-9 lead just over a minute and a half into the second quarter. The Knights' defense bent but wouldn't break as the visitors crept back to within four twice in the frame, but that's as close as they'd get the rest of the way. Senior
Maureen Fiocca capped the half with a layup for a 35-27 Knight lead.
A 9-15 shooting performance from the field and a 7-10 showing from the free throw line led the Arcadia to a 27-point third quarter. Short scoring spurts helped the Knights rebuild its lead back to double-figures. Senior
Imani Alston capped one such spurt with a jumper with 5:35 to go in the frame for a 48-33 lead. That lead grew to 19 by quarter's end following a pair of free throws from Fiocca.
Those free throws came after a sophomore
Olivia Roseman three that sparked an 11-0 run that ended with two Roseman free throws putting Arcadia ahead by its largest margin, 68-43, with 7:32 to go. The Mighty Macs tried a comeback, scoring 10 of the next 12 points, but were only able to get as close as 17. Freshman
Jamie Manzo laid in her first collegiate bucket with 1:10 left to help the Knights score the game's final five points.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Fiocca posted a team-best 20 points, her third straight game with 20 or more points. Roseman notched her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 assists, including five in the first quarter. Bossler joined the double-digit point scorers with 12. On the boards, sophomore
Camille Menns and Cyr led the team with eight.
MOVING UP THE LEADER BOARD: Fiocca's 20 points moved her into 7th place on Arcadia's all-time scoring list. She currently has 801 career points.
