BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The second-seeded Arcadia University women's volleyball season came to a close Wednesday night with a 3-0 loss to third-seeded FDU-Florham in the first round of the 2016 ECAC Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by New York University. The Devils improved to 17-14 overall, and will face the winner of tonight's first round match between top-seeded NYU and fourth-seeded New Jersey City University.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The two teams traded points until in the opening game before FDU went on an eight-point run to go up 20-12 on its way to a 25-20 win. The second game saw another series of scoring runs on both sides of the net, which saw Knights trailing 24-21 before scoring three in a row to tie the game, but the Devils responded by scoring three of the next four points to take the second game 27-25 to go up 2-0 in the match. FDU used a 7-1 run midway through the third game to open an 18-11 lead before closing it out 25-18.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshman
Kaylee Bumpus led the Knights with nine kills and three digs, while sophomore
Lizzie Joseph added seven kills. Junior setter
Colleen Stengel handed out 25 assists with nine digs, while freshman
Emily Eng totaled a team-best 17 digs.
FDU-FLORHAM LEADERS: Lauren Harris put down a match-high 14 kills with 12 digs to lead the Devils, while Kate Quinlan added 12 kills. Melissa Gaffney posted a double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs, while Rachel Catena registered a match-high 11 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Devils outscored the Knights 48-38, with a 43-30 advantage in kills. The Knights had a 6-2 advantage in blocks. FDU hit 14.2 percent aa a team, while Arcadia hit just 4.8 percent.
