Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 18/23 Albright 83-60 in Conference Opener

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team dropped its MAC Commonwealth opener to No. 18/23 Albright 83-60 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. The Knights fell to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play, while the Lions improved to 5-1 and 2-0 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The visitors took control early, opening the game on an 11-3 run over the first 3:18. The Knights battled back to within four when senior Maureen Fiocca laid in the final points of an 11-7 run to make the score 18-14 with 2:59 left in the frame. After outscoring Arcadia 20-9 in the second quarter, the Lions took a 45-29 lead to halftime. Albright wouldn't score no more than six in a row in the second half, however used short spurts to extend its lead.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Fiocca lead the way for Arcadia with 14 points, while being joined in double-figures by sophomores Olivia Roseman (11) and Susan Bossler (10). Sophomore Camille Menns hauled in a team-leading six rebounds off the pine.
 
ALBRIGHT LEADERS: Nina Mazzarelli led all players with 20 points and eight rebounds. Three other players reached double figures including Shannon Thomas (13), Mikayla Lea (12) and Devan Horka.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The battle in the paint was nearly even with the visitors holding a slight 32-30 advantage. The Arcadia defense forced 17 Lion turnovers, with the offense committing 15. The Knights shot 37.1% (23-62) from the floor and went 4-13 from distance while shooting 66.7% (10-15) from the free throw line. Albright shot 51.7% (30-58) from the field and went 9-21 from beyond the arc while shooting 73.7% (14-19) from the free throw line.
