Women’s Basketball Drops 72-60 Decision to TCNJ

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team finished the Juniata Holiday Tournament Friday afternoon with a 72-60 setback at the hands of The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). The Knights fell to 4-8 on the season, while the Lions improved to 5-6.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: After finding themselves down 11 early in the second the quarter, the Knights went on a 19-7 run capped by back-to-back threes from sophomore Olivia Roseman to take a one point lead with 1:26 remaining until halftime. Senior Maureen Fiocca contributed the first eight points of the run with three layups and a pair of free throws in just over two minutes of game time. A pair of TCNJ free throws sent the game to the half with the Lions in front 31-30.
 
Sophomore Sammy Downham opened the third quarter with a good jumper to put the Knights back in front by one, before classmate Susan Bossler converted a three 33 seconds later to respond to a Chiata Palombi jumper and put the Knights back in the lead by two. TCNJ came back on an 18-11 run to open a five point lead as the third quarter neared an end; however Fiocca beat the buzzer with a three to cut the Lion lead to 51-49 entering the final 10 minutes of play.
 
After the deficit was pushed back up to six, freshman Jamie Manzo and Fiocca each converted layups to pull Arcadia within two with 6:58 left to play. The Lions would score the next seven points as part of a game-ending 17-7 run.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Fiocca led the Knights with 13 points. Bossler added 11 while hauling in a team-best seven rebounds; Roseman matched Bossler's 11 points while leading the team with four assists.
 
TCNJ LEADERS: Nikki Schott led all scorers with 15 points, highlighted by a 7-7 performance from the free throw line. Kim Dana, Palombi and Katy Amato each added 11 points, while Charlotte Schum pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia shot 24-63 (38.1%) from the field, including 8-24 (33.3%) from three-point land, while making all four it its free throw attempts. The Lions shot 39% (23-59) from the floor and 8-28 (28.6%) from distance while converting 18-20 (90%) free throws.
