Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thompson’s Late Three Lifts Men's Basketball Over Lycoming, 86-84

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore Brandon Thompson dropped a three with 10.4 seconds remaining and then knocked down the second of two free throws with 3.8 to go, giving the Arcadia University men's basketball team an 86-84 MAC Commonwealth win over Lycoming Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium. The guard delivered six threes in the contest fueling his game-high 25 point performance.

With the win, the Knights complete the season sweep of the Warriors and move to 14-7 overall, 7-5 in the MAC Commonwealth. Arcadia is now in sole possession of second place in the league standings, holding a half-game lead over Lycoming, which fell to 15-7 overall and 7-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.

With less than six minutes left to go in the game and the score tied at 70, the Warriors set out on a 9-2 run to get ahead 79-72, and appeared to have the game in hand after Nykolas King drained a three to give Lycoming an 84-9 lead with 36 seconds on the clock.

The game was far from over though as a trey by John Landro with 12.4 seconds on the clock sparked a string of seven unanswered points that secured the win for the Knights. That shot pulled Arcadia within 84-82, and Lycoming was unable to inbound the ball following multiple timeouts and eventually turned the ball over on a five-second violation. Thompson sank his game-winning three on the Knights possession that followed to put Arcadia up for good with 10.4 remaining, 85-84.

The Warriors were able to get the ball in after falling behind and tried to rush down court for an attempt to retake the lead, but David Johnson had the ball knocked away by junior Ryan Kelley, who was able to grab the ball while leaping out of bounds and fired a no-look pass to Thompson, who was immediately fouled with 3.8 seconds to go. He missed the first free throw before making the second, giving Lycoming one last shot to extend the game or steal a last-second win. King got a wide open look after receiving a Hail Mary pass at the baseline, but the shot fell short to give Arcadia the win.

It was a close contest the entire way with a total of 14 lead changes, including nine in the second half, to go with 11 ties. The Knights' largest lead was just three late in the first half, while the Warriors led by as many as seven midway through the second frame.

Freshman Josh Scott finished the day with 18 points for Arcadia after shooting 6 of 13 from the field and a perfect 6 of 6 from the line, while Landro dropped 17 points and grabbed five boards. The Warriors were led by Chris Wallace, who had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while King and Willie Kee notched 12 points.

The Knights are back at home on Wednesday night as they look for a season sweep against Alvernia. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. from Alumni Gymnasium.
