Box Score 2 STEVENSON, Md. – The Arcadia University baseball team split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Stevenson University Saturday, the opener 18-10 before falling in the nightcap 7-5. The Knights won the series 2-1, and are now 19-11-1 (10-5 MACC) this season. The Mustangs are now 16-17 (7-8 MACC) for the year.
GAME ONE: Arcadia 18, Stevenson 10
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights never trailed in this one, plating five runs on five hits in the top of the first before junior
Jordan Draude launched a three-run homer in the second to take an 8-0 lead. The Mustangs offense got going in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs in the inning to pull back within three, 8-5. Craig Joseph drove in a pair of runs with a double down the right field line to get Stevenson on the board, and was followed by three consecutive run scoring plays.
Arcadia answered with a four-run fourth inning that included an RBI-single for sophomore
Nick Cardace and sac flies from freshman
Luke Hohenstein and sophomore
Pat Shevlin. Cardace capped the scoring in the frame, crossing the plate as classmate
Drew Coisson reached on an error. The Knights scored four more times in the fifth, with Draude driving in two runs on a single up the middle and scoring from first on freshman
Bryan Gillen's double to center. Stevenson answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame that included a three-run blast from Jake Hall to make the score 16-9, but that was as close as the Mustangs would get the rest of the way.
ON THE HILL: Freshman
Zach Manasek improved to 4-1 this season despite giving up nine runs on 10 hits and four walks over four innings. Sophomore
Mark DiBattiste earned his first save of the year after allowing just one run over the final three innings. Christopher Perez fell to 3-2 for Stevenson after giving up 10 runs on 10 hits in three innings.
ARCADIA: AT BAT: The Knights scored 18 runs on 18 hits in the game. Draude finished the game 5 for 6 with a homer, six RBI and four runs scored, while junior
Justin Chasmar was 3 for 4 with a double, a homerun, four runs scored and three runs driven in. Shevlin was 3 for 3 with a double and three RBI.
STEVENSON AT BAT: The Mustangs scored 10 runs on 12 hits in the game. Hall went 2 for 3 with a triple, a home run, five RBI and a pair of runs scored, while Joseph went 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two driven in.
GAME TWO: Stevenson 7, Arcadia 5
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights once again took an early lead, going up 1-0 in the top of the second as Cadace beat out an infield single that allowed Gillen to score from third and taking a 4-2 lead in the third after Shevlin cleared the bases with a double to left-center field gap.
Stevenson reclaimed the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, which saw four runs scoring hits and another run come across on an error. The Knights put runners on second and third with two away in the top of the seventh and pulled within two after Gillen drove in freshman
Anthony Zupito with a single to left, but Trevor Fitzsimmons was able to strike out Shevlin after that to end Arcadia's comeback threat.
ON THE HILL: Jason Bidwell improved to 2-1 after allowing one run on a hit and a walk in his 3.2 innings of relief, while Fitzsimmons picked up his third save after recording the final out of the game. Sophomore
Mike Boulanger fell to 2-3 for Arcadia after allowing seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits while striking out seven over six innings.
ARCADIA AT BAT: The Knights scored five runs and eight hits. Gillen went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and another driven in, while Zupito was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Shevlin was 1 for 4 with a double and three RBI.
STEVENSON AT BAT: The Mustangs scored seven runs on 11 hits. Nick Peifer was 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored, while Jake Dimon was 2 for 2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Matt Myers was 3 for 3 with a double and came around to score twice.
