GLENSIDE, Pa. – After tying the game up with 3:25 left in the fourth quarter, the Arcadia University women's lacrosse team was unable to pull ahead of the visiting Alvernia University Crusaders as they fell 12-11 in a MAC Commonwealth matchup on Wednesday night at Easton Field. The Crusaders moved to 5-7 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Knights fall to 4-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Senior
Dawn Faranetta scored first for the Knights, but the Crusaders would go on to net four straight, including two from Julie Sutton, for a 4-1 lead. The first half then became a scoring battle, as Alvernia took a 6-4 lead into halftime. The Crusaders got things started in the second half, with Kaitlin Ensulo and Sutton extending the lead to 8-4. Adeline Bellesheim and Faranetta to pull back within two.
Both teams traded goals until the Crusaders had taken an 11-8 lead with 4:58 left in the game. From there, junior
Erin Misner scored two goals in a 38 second frame to close Alvernia's lead to 11-10. With 3:25 left on the clock, Bellesheim scored on a man-up opportunity to tie things up but the Crusaders answered with the game-winning goal from Sutton at 2:31.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Faranetta led the Knights with four goals, two assists and three ground balls, while Bellesheim had three goals, one assist and three ground balls. Misner netted three goals and recorded a team-high six draw controls, while sophomore
Marie Brockman scored one goal and picked up one draw control.
ALVERNIA LEADERS: Sutton scored a team-high five goals, while Brooke Campione had three goals, one assist and two draw controls. Abby McCarthy netted two goals while causing two turnovers and Ensulo and Alyson Keene each found the net once. Tequila Donnelly led with a team-high two assists.
IN GOAL: Alvernia's Colleen Reilly moved to 5-7 after making 10 saves and allowing 11 goals. Arcadia senior
