Baseball Splits Twin Bill at Lebanon Valley, Winning Game-One 6-0 and Dropping Game-two 6-3

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team split a pair of MAC Commonwealth games at Lebanon Valley College Saturday, winning game-one 6-0 before falling in game-two 6-3. The Knights are now 21-12-1 overall and 12-6 in conference play, while the Dutchmen are now 15-20 overall and 7-11 in conference play.

GAME ONE: Arcadia 6, Lebanon Valley 0

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights never trailed in the game, going up 1-0 in the top of the first; sophomore Pat Shevlin got on base with a one-out single to third and later scored when senior Michael Nessel drove a two-out single through the left side of the infield. Nessel scored himself in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 2-0, coming home on senior Connor Arsenault's double to the gap in right-center field after leading off the frame with a double down the left field line. Arcadia put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth that included RBI singles from Nessel and fellow senior George Pagan, who both scored on Arsenault's double down the line in left.

ON THE HILL: Sophomore Mike Boulanger evened his record at 3-3 for the season after tossing a three-hit shutout; it was the second complete game and first shutout of his collegiate career. Jacob Williams fell to 2-4 after giving up six runs on nine hits over his 4.1 innings of work.

ARCADIA AT BAT: Nessel was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two runs driven in, while Arsenault was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Pagan was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Nick Cardace was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and a run scored. Shevlin was 1 for 4 on the day, reached base on an error in the fifth and scored two runs.

LEBANON VALLEY AT BAT: Zach Smith accounted for two of the Dutchmen's three hits in the game, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles. Michael Puglisi was 1 for 3 with a double to lead off the bottom of the fourth.

GAME TWO: Lebanon Valley 6, Arcadia 3

HOW IT HAPPENED: Marshall Kiessling drove in a pair of runs with a two-out single to left center after the Dutchmen loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, giving Lebanon Valley its first lead of the day, 2-0. Arcadia got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth; senior Nick Todero led off the inning by beating out a single to short and later scored on Nessel's sac fly to left to cut the deficit to 2-1.

LVC increased its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Philip Berry knocked in two runs with a two-out single to right-center, but Arcadia answered with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to pull back within one. Freshman Sean Carew worked a one-out bases-loaded walk that forced in sophomore Alec Sochacki from third, and Pagan scored on the play that followed as the Dutchmen were unable to turn two on senior Steven Zellers' grounder to short to get out of the inning. Lebanon Valley put up two runs in the bottom of the frame to go back up by three before sending the Knights down in order in the seventh to close out the win.

ON THE HILL: Casey Wall went the distance for LVC, improving to 3-4 after allowing three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five. Freshman Joel Bartoni fell to 4-2 for Arcadia after allowing two runs on four hits in three innings. Junior Joseph Warren was touched up for four runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings of relief.
